Cargo Management for Trucks

For those whose trucks are used for transporting goods cargo management is an important issue.   Firstly, you don’t want anything that you are transporting to get broken or damaged every time you turn a corner or brake hard and secondly, you don’t want the cargo to scratch and damage your truck bed in the same situation.

To solve the problem of damage to the truck bed it is advisable to use some sort of truck bed liner which will prevent the goods from coming into direct contact with the truck bed.  The basic choice is between a bed mat or rug, a spray on liner or a drop in liner.

To keep the items being transported safe and undamaged there are a variety of options.  Cargo nets are easy to fit and are basically a net which is stretched over the cargo and fixed to the truck bed.  This stops movement as the goods are effectively tied to the floor.  This option is relatively cheap and easy to fit yourself.  If you have a particularly large or long load then truck bed extenders can be used to safely enlarge the size of the truck bed by allowing you to keep the tailgate in the open position without risking the cargo falling off the back.

Even if you don’t use your truck for moving large items, it is still important to keep things that you are taking on day trips or for longer vacations in one place.  If you don’t have a truck with an open bed then other options are roof racks and top boxes.  Roof racks are the traditional way of carrying objects on the top of your vehicle but they are not very aero-dynamic and, if you don’t secure the things well, can be an insecure method of carrying things.  Roof boxes have mostly replaced roof racks as they have a streamlined appearance and keep everything nicely in one place.  Once you have got a safe place to store them use a truck accessories guide to find travel accessories to put in it.
