All sorts of trivial stuff you didn't know you needed to know.

Category : Cosmetic

When I had my first cosmetic eyebrow tattoo I wasn’t hesitant at all. Why? Because I had sparse brow hair that was such a light blond color I had to use a brow pencil everyday, and since I also swam, my brows were always being washed away, and I felt self-conscious, so much so that it distracted me from doing things I loved to do. I also saw the benefits of an eyebrow tattooing procedure because I lived in Asia at the time, and such a procedure was commonly accepted as part of what a woman does who cares for her appearance. It wasn’t strange or new-age or risky, but something as common as buying the right shade of lipstick.

Eyebrow Tattooing Benefits

Another deciding factor for me was that, as a very busy professional woman, living in Asia, learning Chinese and working long hours, I simply didn’t have the time it required to look the way I needed to look every morning. And since I was often photographed or on camera, as a cultural journalist, I needed to look my best even at odd hours, like in the early morning when the light was just right, or in the afternoon when I had already worked a long day writing or researching. The last thing I needed to worry about were my eyebrows. So it was really easy to go to a clinic in Hong Kong and get cosmetic eyebrow tattoo information, discuss eyeliner, lip liner and other procedures and get started.

Why Don’t More Women Have Cosmetic Eyebrow Tattoo Procedures In The West?

In the West, deciding if cosmetic eyebrow tattooing is safe and prudent, if it will be done correctly, if the techniques and colors will be right, and pondering what others think of tattoo enhancements…and so many other concerns, inhibit many ladies from taking the step of walking into a clinic and making themselves look more beautiful or freeing their time to do what they really want to do in a day. Like so many other things that women put off doing out of fear that they will seem egocentric or vain, getting a beauty treatment that enhances their eyes and facial features ends up taking a backseat to everyone else’s needs…the kids…a husband….a job….critical co-workers….The reason few women Western get micropigmentation to enhance their looks is less about genuine concern over hygiene issues, infections and scars, or about the lack of clinics that are professional in their area, but more about fear of being different, fear of doing something for themselves, fear of spending a little money on something they want instead of what the kids or the husband wants.

Answer Just One Question

In the end, although you will need adequate information and a professional technician consultation, deciding if a cosmetic eyebrow tattoo procedure is right for you comes down to answering this question: what will YOU do as a woman to make yourself feel free, sexy, more beautiful, more confident?

Tanning Salon Prices

When it comes time for choosing a tanning salon, there are many things to consider such as location, equipment that is being used as well as the pricing of the sessions. Pricing usually falls into several different categories depending on the company as well as what type of tanning you are looking to do. Most salons will offer a base price for one session with additional price breaks for signing up for three or five additional total sessions. Some will offer unlimited tanning for a set time period or monthly memberships that may or may not have set limits for how many times you can tan during that time period.

Also keep in mind that there are several different tanning options to choose from and each of these will have their own set of unique pricing as well. If you are going for a spray or airbrush type tan, a typical session will run anywhere from $40 to $50. Most salons will offer a price break for “x” amount of sessions, so five sessions may run you $170 to $225 which drops the average price per session to a cost of $5 to $10 less for each session than if you had signed up for five individual treatments.

Pricing for getting the more standard tan, either from tanning beds or tanning booths can widely vary depending on the length of the tan and the type of bed that is being used. A typical 10 to 20 minute session can run from as little as $10 up to $20 for one session. When comparing prices at various salons, be sure to inquire about what type of tanning beds they are using. Not all beds are the same, some places still use older style beds which may expose you to more UV rays while others may offer top of the line brands that are going to help protect your skin more and still provide you with that perfectly bronzed body.

There are also membership options, just like at a gym or fitness center. The benefit of these is they usually provide for unlimited tanning in a one month period so if you like to go weekly to help maintain your tan through the course of the year, this will provide a cost savings to you with a monthly package. Membership kits may also include discounts on tanning lotions and other products as well as clothing and other salon materials.

Five Steps to Luscious Lashes

There was a time when every Hollywood star wore false eyelashes. Today, most of us rely on mascara to plump up lashes and give our eyes a distinctive look. However, there are times when you might want the traditional glamor of false eyelashes, perhaps for a special night out or for your wedding. Be ready when the time comes and keep in mind these five steps to flawless eyelash extensions:

  1. Gather your supplies – tweezers, false lashes, eyelash glue, mascara and liquid eyeliner.  False lashes  and eyelash glue can be purchased at most drug stores.
  2. Make sure your natural eyelashes are clean and free from moisture or oil.  Pick up one strip of the lashes with the tweezers and dab a bit of eyelash glue along the inside of the base of the eyelash strip.  Wait ten to fifteen seconds for the the glue to slightly air dry.
  3. Close your eye and position the false lashes over the top of your own lashes. Press the strip of false lashes as close as possible to the roots of our own lashes.  Make sure to secure both the inner and outer corners of the eyelash extensions against your natural lashes.  Keep the eye closed for about a minute, while gently pushing the false eyelashes against the roots of your natural eyelashes.
  4. To hide the eyelash extensions’ seam, apply a thin line of liquid eyeliner over their base.
  5. Open your eyes and brush on a light coat of mascara on the underside of the upper lashes.  This will blend your own lashes with the false lashes, creating a very natural-looking effect.

Have fun with your false eyelashes, and let this time be one of experimentation in the rest of your makeup as well.  For most of us, evening is a time to play with our beauty.  We let loose from the invisible constraints of efforts to look professional at our workplaces.  Enjoy the freedom to look different.  Eyelash extensions are just the beginning of your special look!

The Best Hair Restorer For Women

Hair loss in women is a much harder problem to deal with than when it affects a man.  The root cause is generally the same, Androgenic Alopecia, but the way this medical condition manifests itself is quite different for males and females.  Understanding that the cause of the hair loss is the same in both sexes was the key to finding a good hair restorer for women.

Androgenic alopecia is a genetically derived condition which can actually be passed down through either the mother’s or the father’s blood line.  For centuries it was thought that the baldness originated with the mother because often times a man would have a full head of hair but his sons would be completely bald.  The reason for this is now clear.  The genes responsible for this form of alopecia (hair loss) are recessive which means they don’t show up in every generation, instead they often times skip a generation completely or afflict siblings differently.  Thus it was almost like magic to figure out which men would go bald and which wouldn’t.

Women have not really had much help with their hair loss because it was not understood that it was caused by a genetic condition.  In fact, androgenic alopecia has the common name male pattern baldness:  women are not even mentioned.  About the only relief women have had was to buy a wig or hat.  This has now changed as businesses realize female hair restoration is big business.  Recently the US FDA has approved a topically applied drug which is recommended in the battle for hair loss in women.  This drug, Minoxidil, is applied to the scalp twice a day and rubbed in.  It is said to absorb into the scalp and then protect the hair follicles (roots) from attack by the substance responsible for male pattern baldness.  This substance, DHT, bonds with the receptors on the hair follicles and stops the transfer of nutrients and oxygen from the blood supply.  This causes the hair follicle to stop producing Keratin and thus the hair shaft gets thinner and thinner, eventually falling out.

When men have this problem they usually lose their hair in set patterns, thus the name.  Usually they will see loss on the crown of the head and above the forehead.  Women on the other hand will see thinning over their entire scalp which didn’t really seem to be baldness.  Instead, most women with thinning hair were thought to worry too much, or eat the wrong foods, or just be cursed.  Now we know it is caused by the same problem men have and it is just the symptoms which are different.

If you are a women with thinning hair then you are not cursed.  Check out Minoxidil products as you can buy them over the counter and see what you think.  Try the solution for 30 days and watch to see what difference it will make.

Facial Hair Removal Options

When one thinks of facial hair, 99% of the time, the thought that enters a person’s head is that of a man. In reality though, roughly 10% of women in the world will at some point in their lives discover facial hair growing. For these types of cases, there are a variety of choices for women to pick from to help solve this problem, either in the form of temporary or permanent hair removal.

Here is a brief look at the temporary options to remove hair. On the plus side, these methods are not too costly, but the flip side is that at some point the hair is going to grow back.

1. Shaving – shaving is of course the easiest solution and the most common, but it is not a recommended solution for women as the hair will grow in faster and tends to be coarser after shaving.
2. Plucking – plucking is an option, but it takes a lot of time to take out single hairs. You will need some dedication to go this route as this will need to be a continuous process to stay hair free.
3. Waxing – this is widely used by women because a waxing kit can be easily bought and then done in the privacy of the home. Be prepared for some pain though with this option as the yanking away of the cloth from the skin can sting for awhile depending on how sensitive to pain you are.

If you are looking for more permanent hair removal options, then there are two choices in the form of laser hair treatment or electrolysis. While either of these two choices will take away the hair for a much greater period of time than by the temporary options, there is still a chance that some hair will eventually grow back. Here is a look at the permanent solutions.

1. Laser Hair Removal – this process is somewhat limited as it targets the color of the skin, people that have light blond hair or red hair are not recommended for this process. This choice will take several sessions before the process is completed, so think how the treatment sessions and the cost will work with your schedule and your pocketbook.
2. Electrolysis – electrolysis has been known to be the most effective option for getting rid of hair for the longest period of time. You may have some discomfort during the session depending on you’re the amount of hair that is being removed and how coarse it is. Because the sessions can last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, know going in whether you will be able to hold up to that prolonged of a period if you encounter any type of pain.

There are many alternatives out there to help with facial hair removal. What choice is best for you comes down to what you can afford and how much discomfort or pain you are willing to endure for a more permanent hair removal solution.
