The Electronic Drum Set of Today

Electric and electronic musical devices have secured their places in the music industry as the preferred kind of instruments by many musicians all over the globe. This is not because they are necessarily better than their acoustic counterparts, but because of the convenience they can bring when playing to record or in front of a live audience.

However, one popular instrument has remained mostly acoustic even today: the drum set. Bands may have electric guitars, electronic keyboards, but will retain an acoustic drum kit because of its importance when it comes to creating proper sounds and beats for the whole band to follow. Read More…

3 great Yamaha acoustic guitars

Yamaha offer a great range of acoustic guitars which suit every experience level, the manufacturer is synonymous with providing great quality cheap guitars. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a beginner on a budget or a seasoned pro looking for a new 6-string, there a huge selection of Yamaha acoustic guitars out there, I guarantee you will find something to meet your needs.

Firstly, if you’re a beginner and struggling to figure out what instrument will meet your needs, you needn’t look any further than the F series Yamaha acoustic guitars. These instruments have a great tone for the price you are paying and are reliable as hell; I personally would love to have one these models just to mess around with. F series range instruments come with a spruce top and a NATO neck, this would be the perfect choice for any players who are just learning the ropes.

Alternatively if you’re considering purchasing a slightly more expensive instrument might I suggest you take a look at FG series Yamaha acoustic guitars, these are designed to replicate the tone and features of high end instruments but at a much lower price tag. Instruments in the FG series are known for their warm, rich sounds and offer a build quality which is far superior to any other instruments within its price range.

Finally, if you’re considering playing live you may want to consider a Yamaha acoustic electric guitar, if this is the case then the APX range should be right up your street. APX acoustic guitars have a cutaway body shape and are offered in a range of colours, I personally love the translucent black. The thin profile of the instrument makes this Yamaha acoustic guitar really playable and fits snugly against the body of the player, if you’re looking for a great Yamaha electric acoustic, you’ve found it.

There you have it guys, my 3 favourite Yamaha acoustic guitars, pick any one of the fabulous ranges and you’re in for a real treat. If you’re already an experienced guitarist I would recommend going for the APX or FG ranges, these instruments will give your playing a real kick.

Hard Cases For Your Guitar

For musicians their instruments are very precious, whether its a guitar, banjo, violin or some other stringed instrument. They need some protection against the elements as well as potential damage during transit, so that the prized instruments can be able to make wonderful music for years to come. In most people eyes an entry level instrument would be classed as being disposable, on the other hand a vintage instrument, constructed using rare woods and with their top class tone can be worth thousands of dollars, and really need the top protection offered by hard cases. Charlotte SEO Switches Hats and Plays Session Guitar

Guitar Jingle Sessions tips

For the past few decades I have played guitar professionally. I often play on jingles that I produce for radio and television. My Charlotte  marketing includes SEO, copywriting, audio for radio and TV, and other forms of advertising still includes original music.

If you find yourself in a studio with a guitar in your lap about to participate in a session here are seven tips -

One — find an electronic method of tuning your guitar. There are few things more important during a jingle session than being perfectly in tune. This is a basic requirement for any studio work. Yet it is often overlooked to the detriment of a complex session.

Two — use quality electronic cords to connect your guitar to studio equipment. A low quality cord can cause hum. Extraneous noises are almost impossible to remove once they have been recorded.

Three — know your part. Rehearse your part 10 times or more and make sure you are fluent.

Four — playing in a session is much different than playing live. Remember to loosen up and stay loose inside the walls of a cold unfriendly studio.

Five — a studio arrangement requires a very different ego than a stage arrangement. Often, a guitar part will last literally a few seconds and be over. Get used to it. It sounds great that way so learn to back out and be happy by contributing your tiny amount to the overall  project.

Six — use your technique wisely. The sound of fingers on strings can often contribute a liveness that is welcome, other times, it is anything but welcome. Learn to know the difference and use your technique with discretion.

Seven — with today’s electronic manipulation your guitar can sound like any number of instruments including trumpets, trombones, pianos, even sound effects. When doing a session, depending on schedule, try to stay within the boundaries of experimentation. It’s always good to add creative flair by experimenting with different sounds, but keep focused on the overall project so that you can actually have a finished product. Excessive experimentation with neat sounds can ruin an otherwise focused session.

These are just a few tips for studio work with a guitar if you happen to be in such a position. I continue my marketing efforts by being a session player,by doing SEO in the Queen City of Charlotte, radio and TV performance,  writing and other advertising.

With a creative approach in today’s marketplace you might be surprised what you can accomplish in marketing, advertising, and the music that

goes behind it all.

Arranger Music Keyboards

The arranger music keyboard is probably the most popular digital keyboard instrument on the market.  It’s one you’ll see more readily available and at the lowest price.  Although it’s typically considered a beginner’s instrument, it is quite versatile and the higher end models are used for serious music production and performance.

The main purpose of an arranger is to instantly create arrangements of a song in a wide variety of styles.  This basically breaks down to taking a melody and chord progression and playing it on the keyboard with the sound of a full backing band.  Arrangers have a large collection of accompaniment styles such as ballad, polka, rock, or disco.  The keyboard player picks a style and the keyboard will start playing the backing track which, depending on the style, will feature instruments such as drums, percussion, bass, strings, brass, guitars, etc.  The music changes to the chords played by the player and the melody can be played over the arrangement with any one of the various instruments (typically over 100) available on the musical keyboard.

Arranger keyboards are great tools for composing but they are also a great for performance.  Those who like to perform as a one-man-band can sing, play the lead to a song, or improvise over a fully arranged backing track.  The keyboard player can choose the style, the tempo, the lead instrument, and can also introduce fills to create transition phrases, all played in the style chosen.  Singers can plug a microphone into the keyboard.  Many of the higher end models also have expression and modulation wheels that can bend the pitch of a note and create other expressive effects.

Arranger music keyboards are great for many types of musicians.  They’re a great keyboard instrument for beginners to get into music, to practice piano on, and just to have fun with.  Many arrangers come with a built-in system that teaches beginners to play songs, some even with lighted keys.  Arrangers can also be used by more serious musicians.  Composers can sketch-out song ideas on the keyboard or connect it to a computer and input music into a software sequencer.  Singers can use the keyboard to practice song and plunk out notes.  Overall, the arranger music keyboard is as versatile as the musicians that use one.
