There are a variety of paper trimmers and cutters available in the market today, from manual to electronic paper cutters and large scale to small scale paper cutting and trimming. When it comes to desktop or small scale paper cutting, consumers are often caught in the dilemma of choosing between the rotary or arm paper trimmer. Which one is really best for making small paper cuts and trims?
Rotary Paper Cutter or Trimmer
The rotary trimmer uses a wheel cutter to cut or trim the paper, cloths or other lighter materials. You can imagine the wheel cutter as similar-looking to the one you used for slicing pizzas. The casing of the rotary blade moves along the paper’s length through the railing on its sides to make the cuts. The rotary blade can be replaced or interchanged to cut other patterns aside from the usual straight line. This type of trimmer is preferred by most scrapbook enthusiast and other hobbyists for the multiplicity of patterns it is able to cleanly cut or trim. Other people claimed that rotary trimmers cut cleaner than arm trimmers.
Arm Paper Cutter or Trimmer
The arm paper cutter or trimmer has been in the market for a long time already. Its design is basically the same ever since with modifications made only for safety purposes. The cutter’s base is either made of metal of wood. It has a bladed arm that looks like a long, slim knife with one end attached to the base and the other end is the handle for manual cutting. The arm remains open until it is used for safety. This type of cutter is typical for occasional and simple cutting needs. These simple paper cutters can are mostly used by offices and small businesses. Arm cutters are the most affordable yet the easiest to use mechanical paper cutters which probably explain why this type of cutters still exists today. As long the blades are sharp, it can trim a maximum of 30 paper sheets fairly neatly.
So, the answer to the question really depends on your needs and interests. The choice is yours.
