Electric Oven Cooking Technique

Despite all of the new and fancy kitchen appliances available today, it is still essential to know how to use your oven properly. After all, there are some recipes that can only be completed to perfection within an oven. Some people have lost touch with their ovens because they simply don’t have time to use a longer method of cooking. But with a few basic tips, you can brush up on your oven cooking techniques and go back to having great tasting roasts.

Your oven will only be as good as how clean it is, so always ensure that it is absolutely spotless. Of course this can be easier said than done if you haven’t cleaned your oven for a while. But in the end all it takes is a good scrub with an oven cleaner to remove the build-up of grease and grime. Better yet, most newer convection ovens have self cleaning features that you can turn on overnight to do the job for you. And of course if you happen to have a handy halogen oven, you can simply take it apart and wash it in the sink.

Oven cooking is relatively simple in that you put your choice of meat inside and let it cook for the allotted time. However, remember that patience is a virtue, so never open the oven door to see how your food is doing. Constant opening of the door, or poking and prodding your meat will only result in uneven cooking. Your meat will not cook as quickly, and the end result will be much less juicy. You should always make sure to preheat your oven to the exact temperature required of your recipe. Doing otherwise will throw your cooking time off track, and you won’t get that nice initial sear that you look for in most roasts. A lot of electric oven cooking technique actually comes in the form of how you choose to flavour the food. So this is your chance to shine in terms of how fancy you want to get with spices, herbs, and marinades. But again, once the food is in the oven, let it cook in the heat on its own and your patience will pay in a great tasting product.
