Wouldn’t it be great if over time, without any effort, things would clean themselves? Unfortunately, we live in a reality where if you don’t consciously pay attention to clutter, it can begin to build up and make your home a mess. Many people have piled up things in their closets, up in their loft, and in their garage. It would be nice if you can just go home to a nice, clutter free space but unless you actually make the effort, it’s just not going to happen. Cleaning and organizing can be a big hassle so let’s take a look at some of the things you can do to make the task a bit easier.

One of the main reasons why we even have messy storage areas in the first place is because of a lack of system as well as a lack of discipline. If you have a closet with only one shelf and a rod to hold your clothes for example, it’s pretty easy to end up having a messy closet simply because there aren’t any compartments that will create boundaries for the different type of things that you put in there. This goes the same for your loft, garage, or any other place in your home. So what can you do about this?

One thing you can do is get some organizers. This includes shelves, cubbies, cabinets, or just anything that will help you compartmentalize your items. The easiest thing to do when you are cleaning up is to toss things into a closet or into your garage, out of sight. This is what causes most storage areas to fill up with clutter. When you don’t know where to put items you don’t want to throw away, you will tend to find any space that is available that you can shove it into. If every thing had its place, you would then be able to quickly clean up your home and at the same time do it in an organized fashion.

Simply buying these organizers will help but that’s not all you will have to do. You will also need to get into the habit of putting things where they belong. How many times have you put something into a spot that didn’t belong there and told yourself you’ll organize it later but never did? Organization really just comes down to creating a system and actually sticking to it. It takes practice but once it becomes a habit, it’ll be easy. Make sure you be careful when walking up and down your loft ladder. Whether it’s a telescopic loft ladder or a wooden one, one fall can make clutter the least of your problems.
